Below is our review of the Acer Aspire 5733, a 15.6" laptop, featuring 6GB RAM, 500GB hard drive and Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit edition).
Manufactured by Acer, the 5733 is part of the Aspire range – which have a reputation for offering decent specifications at competitive prices. So how does it compare to other laptops? It runs fast – the Intel processor and graphics card help keep your software running at a speed to rival some desktops, the trackpad and keyboard, as you would expect with Acer, are well made, and make navigating and typing effortless. The finish feels expensive, which is an added bonus for what is essentially a mid price laptop – at the time of writing this laptop is available at approximately £399. Start up is pretty fast, around a minute, and the laptop coped admirably with all the tasks we threw at it – like most mid priced laptops it will struggle to play the latest games, as well as processor intensive tasks such as HD video editing – however for general use it performs well, and at around the £400 mark it is extremely competitively priced. The 500gb hard drive offers ample room for all of your files, photos and music – audio is catered for by the inbuilt speakers, which are pretty good for a laptop, although the audiophiles amongst us might want to invest in a decent pair of headphones or external speakers – we’re yet to find a laptop that provides amazing sound. That said, the speakers provided are crisp and clear, and no worse than any others on the market. The 15.6″ display, as you’d expect with Acer’s reputation, is clear and bright, and didn’t result in any eye strain during our test session. No problems there.

Our Verdict for the Acer Aspire 5733
All in all, the Aspire 5733 offers very good value, together with Acer’s decent customer service, making this laptop a real contender if you’re looking to purchase a laptop in the £400 price bracket. So who is this laptop aimed at? It’s fairly lightweight, which will make it ideal for students and those who commute – it is not particularly suited for intensive gaming – but then again, no laptops in this price range are. For browsing the web, sending and receiving your e-mails, Word processing and usual household laptop usage, it is ideal – fast, reliable and a pleasure to use.
