Cheap Microwaves

If you’re on a budget and are after a cheap microwave, then you have three main options:

Firstly, you could take the second hand route, and purchase a microwave from an auction, car boot, second hand shop, Ebay or Gumtree.  This has it’s advantages and disadvantages – you can save a lot of money, and get an expensive microwave for relatively little money.  However you also run the risk of buying an untested appliance, which has the possibility of it not working, or even worse, being dangerous.

The second option would be to buy a new microwave.  Budget microwaves often lack the facilities and build quality of more expensive appliances – however they do come with warranties.  Often the best place to look for a cheap microwave would be your supermarket, or alternatively warehouse clearance sales on Ebay from sellers such as Argos Outlet – in both cases their buying power enables them to sell microwaves considerably cheaper than their competitors.  Occasionally bargains can also be found on major retail websites like Amazon – although these tend to sell out fast.

The third option is to look for refurbished microwaves – these are often better tested than new items – when a new microwave is found to be defective, it is often sent back to the manufacturer, and the faulty part is replaced.  As the transport costs of sending the item back to the user or retailer are quite high, often refurbished items receive more testing than new items – simply as the manufacturer doesn’t want the item returned again, as it’s a costly process.  These refurbished items are often like new, but for a fraction of the price, and are fully tested, complete with a warranty.

Microwaves typically start at around £40 and go up to £300 in price – the more expensive models tend to have a lot more features, and have better build quality – however if you just need a simple and reliable method of heating up your food a few times a week then a cheap microwave would be more than sufficient for your needs.  Cheaper models tend to be solo microwaves – however you might find a combi microwave in a sale for around £70 if you shop around.
